ZEELINK pipeline construction project

One of NRW's largest infrastructure projects

ZEELINK was the largest single project in the Federal Network Agency's 2015 and 2016 National Gas Development Plan (NDP), allowing service areas supplied with L-gas to be switched to H-gas. The pipeline provides a connection to the LNG terminal in Zeebrugge thereby contributing to the diversification of supply sources and routes to Germany.

The name ZEELINK is derived from the Belgian LNG terminal in Zeebrugge. LNG is the acronym for Liquefied Natural Gas. The partners in this project are Open Grid Europe GmbH (75 per cent) and Thyssengas GmbH (25 per cent).

The ZEELINK project included the construction of a new pipeline from the Belgian-German border near Lichtenbusch to Sankt Hubert near Krefeld and on to Legden near Ahaus in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as a compressor station in Würselen and another one in Legden.

After just seven years, ZEELINK, one of NRW's largest infrastructure projects, was completed on time and within budget in May 2021.
